Air Canada Airlines Check in
From the comfort of your home, you may check in starting 24 hours before to
departure. You can print your boarding card or have it texted to your smartphone.
You can also choose other available check-in methods, modify your seat, and
specify how many luggage you plan to check in.

Check in Time Air Canada
In Canada, you have to arrive at the airport no later than 1.5 hours before
departure; have picked up your boarding card and checked your bags no later
than 45 minutes before departure (20 minutes from Toronto); and get at the
boarding gate before it closes (30 minutes before departure).
When traveling to or from the United States, you must: Have picked up your
boarding pass and checked your bags at least 60 minutes prior to departure;
Have arrived at the boarding gate before it closes (30 minutes prior to
departure); Arrive at the airport at least two hours before departure (3 hours if
leaving from Toronto Pearson).
Traveling abroad, including to Mexico and the Caribbean, requires you to meet
certain requirements. These include being at the airport three hours prior to
departure, having picked up your boarding pass and checked your bags at
least sixty minutes beforehand (or ninety minutes if leaving from Toronto
Pearson), and arriving at the boarding gate prior to its closure, which is thirty
minutes before departure.
For any trip from Toronto Pearson (YYZ) to a U.S. or foreign destination, the
deadline to check in and drop off checked luggage is 90 minutes prior to
departure in order to minimize lines at security and customs.

I booked the seat and cancelled after some time due to some emergency. I thought I will not get that much refund for my ticket but there customer care guided me and gave me almost 90% of my refund.
